On & On

June 10th, 2017

The Underground Museum - Los Angeles

Holding space within On & On, a multi-sensory installation by Grant Shumate, we welcomed guests with the comforts of community and connection, while exploring vulnerability, exposure, ego and desire. As the of thread of the performance, I kicked off the entertainment by welcoming a line of bewildered guests into the back courtyard with kora music. As other musicians performed and footage captured of a party in full force, I opened the gallery's back door inviting guests to experience a different side of the installation.

With Noah Davis' show "Artists of Color" as the backdrop inside my performance/part performance art piece Perform, Please, Prove explores vulnerability and an opportunity to deepen my connection to mindfulness through music, painting and spontaneous interaction with those curious enough to come inside. In addition, I directed the interior design to create a space of repose inside the gallery in contrast to the dinner party outside. Performers included Hanni El Khatib, Gaslamp Killer, Sister Ruby, Edu Grau and more.

Gathering space

It does not matter what the specific experience is. When we are present and awake to the living reality of the here and now, the experience always has an inherent rightness. We experience the unfolding of reality as perfection
